No Cadmium in My Solder Please

By isidro

Most of the jewelry I like to make is forged and constructed without the use of solder. When I do use solder however, I use a silver solder formula without cadmium. This means I have to special order it because most manufacturers use cadmium to formulate their silver solder.

The reason I special order and use cadmium-free silver solder is because cadmium is a very toxic material. It is not only toxic to work with, but it is also toxic to wear or have it in contact with your skin for a time. The reason they add cadmium to solder, is because it makes it much easier to work with. It flows much easier and does not require as much skill to work with.

So if you make jewelry or use silver solder in your work or play, be sure that you request:

No Cadmium in My Solder Please.

If you have trouble finding Cadmium-free silver solder, this is where I get mine.
